Nepalese Embassy In D.C.
Diplomatic ties between the United States and Nepal was formed in 1947 after which the Nepalese Embassy was established in 1958. Our first ambassador to the U.S. was Mr. Rishikesh Shah who served from 1958 to 1961.
Our current ambassador (2014) to the U.S. is Dr. Shankar Prasad Sharma.
Dr. Sharma has comprehensive experience in government, international institutions, and economic research. He has previously held numerous positions such as Deputy Chairman at the National Planning Commission in Nepal (1999–2006), Chief Advisor in Ministry of Finance, Alternate Governor of Nepal for the International Monetary Fund and Senior Economist in Institute of South East Asian Studies (1986–1993). He has a Masters and Ph.D in economics from the University of Hawaii.
In 2012, we were privileged and honored to have him as a guest and audience member for our annual show, Nepal Night.
